Built by hand.

Atabeyra was hand-crafted in 1992 by owners David and Jenny Douglas. Originally built as a “rum runner,” she made regular voyages between the Dominican Republic and Providenciales — carrying rum, beer, fresh fruits and vegetables that supplied their own local farmers market on the island.
In 1997 she was lovingly refit as a charter vessel, marking the beginning of Sun Charters. Nearly three decades later she remains the most recognised and beloved sailing vessel in the Turks and Caicos — often referred to as “the residents’ choice.”

The longer options give your crew more range to reach more remote destinations, spend more time at the reef, and sail at a genuinely unhurried pace. The 6-hour charter is the most complete experience Atabeyra offers.
Atabeyra is rated for up to 50 guests — the largest charter vessel in the Turks and Caicos fleet. She has hosted intimate groups of just a handful and full parties of 50. For groups larger than 50, we can arrange an additional vessel to sail alongside.
Yes — when you book a private charter the entire vessel is yours. No other groups, no strangers on board. The itinerary is built entirely around your group and your day.
Atabeyra departs from Leeward Marina, Providenciales. Detailed directions, parking information, and a full charter briefing are included in your booking confirmation.
Absolutely. Your captain will work with you based on your preferences, the weather on the day, and the time of year. We can prioritise snorkeling, sailing, beach time, or any combination you prefer.
